obama_mail_500pxPresident Barack Obama said today that the Palestinians should negotiate with the Israelis and not appeal to the United Nations for statehood.

“I strongly believe that for Palestinians to take the United Nations route rather than the path of sitting down and talking with the Israelis is a mistake,” Obama said in a joint press conference with British Prime Minister David Cameron in London.

“The United Nations can achieve a lot of important work, what it is not going to be able to do is deliver a Palestinian state,” he said. “The only way to see a Palestinian state is if Palestinians and Israelis agree on a just peace.”

Obama also reassured that he was confident a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians was achievable.

“My goal, as I set out in a speech I gave last week, is a Jewish state of Israel that is safe and secure and recognized by its neighbors and a sovereign state of Palestine in which the Palestinian people are able to determine their own fate and their own future,” Obama said. “I am confident that can be achieved.”

  1. That is very probable #1 (A Maven).

However, the London “Times” reported this morning that while President Obama has stated that he believes the Palestinians should try to get their statehood through negotiation, a number of other world leaders may press for demanding statehood via the UN Security Council and the General Assembly.

Personally, I think the most decisive factor will be the will of G-d.

  2. #1 – Except, of course, that Obama said the exact same thing BEFORE Netanyahu’s speech:

“For the Palestinians, efforts to delegitimize Israel will end in failure. Symbolic actions to isolate Israel at the United Nations in September won’t create an independent state. Palestinian leaders will not achieve peace or prosperity if Hamas insists on a path of terror and rejection. And Palestinians will never realize their independence by denying the right of Israel to exist.”

Really, why are basic comprehension and analytical skills are lacking in so many?

  3. The prophecies are crystal clear that a certain male, descended on the patrilineal line from King David via Solomon will be installed in his rightful place in Jerusalem at some point in human history. BTW, the prophecies are immutable and that time is now. He will then do as kings do. There are some connections of trust open now which must be managed carefully. Tiny shifts in orientation can move mountains.

More people are getting their heads around the fact that there is a divinely mandated plan for the Holy Land, Middle East and World. G-d is using a lot of people and groups as divine tools right now. He is preparing the ground for some new connections to be made. Once these connections are formed they will lead to a stronger organism and structure. Like the growth of neural connections of a post-conception, pre-birth infant in the womb.

“The Sovereign has, under a constitutional monarchy such as ours, three rights — the right to be consulted, the right to encourage, the right to warn. And a king of great sense and sagacity would want no others !”

“One of the greatest pains to human nature is the pain of a new idea. The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.”

  4. It is widely held that a “state” is formed when the state has satisfied 4 factors:
    1. a functional government
    2. a permanent population
    3. recognizable borders
    4. recognition from other sovereign states

    The Palestinians:
    1. have a functioning a government
    2. have a permanent population
    3. they lack this element and need to negotiate to satisfy
    4. questionable, probably not any different than Kosovo, which Russia refuses to recognize, causing Kosovo to never apply for membership with the UN

Therefore Kosovo, and a proposed Palestine, will not achieve statehood; instead, it will be like Taiwan or better yet, Republica Del Norte
