You read that headline correctly.

President Barack Obama, who has hosted a Pesach Seder each year of his presidency, will hold one again this year, for Pesach 5776, but not on either of the nights when the Seder will be held in accordance with the minhag of Klal Yisroel, tonight and tomorrow night.

The reason? Obama is traveling overseas. Obama will be in Saudi Arabia tonight and tomorrow night, the nights of the Seder, for a regional cooperation summit.

  1. What do you want from him?
Everyone he invited said they couldn’t make it because they were home with their family.

    Chag kosher v’sameach!!

  2. Well, they’ve never held a kosher ‘seder’ anyway, so having their dinner on the wrong evening doesn’t matter. I was thinking they would just give it a miss this year…

  3. Oh please! There are plenty of valid reasons to criticize president Obama but this is not one of those. He is a Gentile who is opportunistically showing sympathy to his Jewish voters (which is better than the contrary would be) and as for the “wrong nights”, who cares. If anything, the Jews who attend the President’s dinner will be able to have a Seder at their own homes, perhaps the only nearly-observant thing they do year round.
