Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Saturday called for congressional salaries to be furloughed during the next government shutdown.
Roughly a quarter of federal agencies closed when Congress failed to meet a midnight funding deadline on Friday. Lawmakers arrived Saturday at the Capitol as congressional negotiators try to find a path forward on a deal to end the funding lapse.
“It’s completely unacceptable that members of Congress can force a government shutdown on partisan lines & then have Congressional salaries exempt from that decision,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter.
“Have some integrity,” she added, calling for salaries to be furloughed for the next shutdown.
“Next time we have a gov shutdown, Congressional salaries should be furloughed as well.”

I think she’s pretty retarded overall. But what should I say she has a pretty valid point. Guess even the worst shooter hits a bullseye once.
Ocasio Stands for occasionally says something that isn’t dumb
This nutcase says something right for a change. The government should be shutdown for good and the paycheck of these American-hater politicians should go to pay for the wall.
She previously complained that the cost of living in Washington DC makes it difficult for the non-wealthy to serve in Congress on the salaries they are paid.
She has a good point about the morality of congress shutting the government while shielding themselves, but her alternative would “discriminate” against poorer representatives…
On Twitter, Rep. Dave Joyce, R-Ohio, said that if Congress “Can’t keep the government fully operational, we shouldn’t get paid.”
“It’s that simple,” Joyce said in a tweet, which included a letter to Chief Administration Officer Phillip Kiko.
Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., also said on Twitter that she submitted a letter Saturday requesting her pay be withheld during the shutdown.
Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto said on Twitter that she did not want to be paid either.
Ocasio-Cortez, pandering to the cameras and trying desperately to keep in front of them is a Schumer wannabe. She was a couple days late and she’s not even a representative yet. Recall, she can’t afford to rent an apartment. When will we ever learn?
Making that argument scores free political points as she knows congress won’t do it and her own salary is safe.
you first AOC
Finally, the lone sane thought, from an embittered bartender.
A broken clock is correct twice a day.
congresses salary should be decided by public referendum. why should people get to decide their own income!
