Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Thursday celebrated Amazon’s decision to cancel its plans to build a second headquarters in New York City.

“Today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazon’s corporate greed, its worker exploitation, and the power of the richest man in the world,” Ocasio-Cortez, one of the deal’s staunchest critics, wrote.

Ocasio-Cortez in recent months joined the chorus of local politicians and advocates slamming the Amazon deal as corrupt and potentially harmful to local residents. Critics focused much of their ire on New York City’s decision to offer $3 billion in state and city incentives to lure in Amazon, as well as the company’s anti-union track record.

The self-described democratic socialist had criticized the tax breaks for Amazon, as well as the company’s hiring practices and wages.

  1. I really like this dumbass Casio-Vortex or whatever the H her name is. She’s showing the country what they get when they vote for dumbass Democrats. Looks like 2020 is gonna be a great year for Republicans.

    • I wish what your saying about 2020 being a great year for Republicans was true. Unfortunately we’ve seen time and again how lazy our voters have been. They just don’t seem to care. “I have no time”. I’m on vacation”. I’m in middle of a finishing a big deal”. “I don’t want to do jury duty”. “It’s not tznius for a woman to vote”. “It’s pashut bittul torah”. “It’s raining outside”. “My vote won’t make a difference anyway”. I promise you I’ve heard every single one of these lame excuses from chaveirim (and their wifes) of mine when I call or text them on election day. The radical left ALWAYS comes out and votes, even a few times if necessary.

      • You are 100% correct! These “excuse” people who can’t vote for one reason or another then have the chutzpa to complain about everything the government does and then they want all kinds of government services. These “non voters” are not as smart as they think they are. The local elected officials constantly monitor the voter rolls and determine where their support comes from and services those areas first. Did you know that the voting records are public documents? They don’t say who voted for who on an individual basis but they calculate the number of votes in each district. And you thought the information is confidential! Ha!

  2. This is a great victory for the People’s Republic of New York.

-We don’t need 25,000 high-paying jobs that will pump taxes into our local economy, support local businesses, employ local construction and rent from local landlords.
-We don’t care if a planned long-term huge employer just cancelled their plans forever.
-We don’t care that any future plans ANY company may make about where to locate will factor in this fiasco when considering New York.

All that matters is that WE WON!!! All the power to the people! Viva la revolucion! (BTW, on an unrelated note, why is there no money to fix the subway?)

    • May is Owned by NYs which has little finds. No big airport of such a big city doesn’t have a good train to the airport. NYC haS to control its infrastructure.

  3. Why does Amazon have to come into an already congested area like Queens? They could of come and built their Company in the Catskills or somewhere near there, just like Legoland is very successfully doing! Leave our City alone. We don’t have the infrastructure to handle such a behemoth. It is GREAT news that the abusive Amazon is NOT coming to our City and destroying our neighborhood’s. Thank you to all the politicians who, for once, put the hardworking taxpaying local citizens first!

  4. This Castro einikel criticizes the hiring practices of Amazon. When will she criticize NY State for ignoring public assistance recipients, with advanced degrees, wheeling around people in airports or cleaning hotels instead of being offered one of the thousands of open job reqs in NY State and NY City government? Or do these jobs only go to the connected, the ones who feather the coffers of our elected representative? Hey Rome, move over, here we come.
