eliezer-cohen-missingMarlene Lynch Ford, the Ocean County prosecutor, issued a detailed statement Thursday pleading for information about a 17-year-old boy who has been missing on and off for more than eight months.

Eliezer Cohen has gone missing several times since March 4 when he returned to Lakewood after an extended trip to Israel, according to a prepared statement from the prosecutor. Cohen was to appear in family court Nov. 12 for a custody hearing, but he did not show.

“It is imperative that Eliezer, or whoever is harboring him, return him to the family court, in order that his legal status be resolved, and the anguish of his parents be alleviated,” Ford said in the statement. “We are unaware whether or not he is attending school, or whether his daily living needs are being met.”

However, authorities said they do not believe Cohen is in immediate danger.

The court granted joint custody of Cohen to his parents and the state Division of Youth and Family Services on Nov. 12. The boy might be emancipated by the court. Before that, he must be interviewed by Judge Marquis D. Jones Jr., who is handling the case, Ford said.

Cohen is about 5 feet tall and weighs 105 pounds.

Addresses known to Cohen are 818 South Lake Dr., 189 Chateau Dr., and 705 Valley Dr., all in Lakewood.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lakewood Detective Oscar Valmon at 732-363-0200, or Detective Brian Haggerty of the county prosecutor’s office at 732-929-2027. Authorities are accepting anonymous tips, Ford said.
