OceanGate Expeditions CEO Stockton Rush, who is currently on board the submerged vessel that has gone missing, previously expressed his preference for hiring individuals based on inspiration rather than solely relying on experience, stating that he didn’t want to employ “50-year-old White guys” with military backgrounds to pilot the company’s vessels.
According to Rush, the ability to drive the submersible is not limited to a specific group, as it can be operated using a $30 video game controller. He explained that when he established the business, he intentionally sought a younger and more inspirational team, highlighting the importance of motivating individuals in the marine technology field. Rush aimed to attract intelligent and driven younger individuals who could become sub pilots, platform operators, or technicians. By doing so, the company aimed to explore groundbreaking approaches and innovations in their operations.
Rush also mentioned that OceanGate Expeditions implements safety measures and risk assessments inspired by the aerospace industry rather than traditional ocean-related practices. The company provides training to individuals, as driving the submersible can be easily learned using a game controller.
Currently, Rush is among the five crew members on OceanGate’s Titan submersible, which disappeared during a dive to the wreckage of the Titanic in the Atlantic Ocean. Rescue operations are underway by U.S. and Canadian authorities, as the crew is trapped inside the craft with limited oxygen supply. The other crew members include French mariner Paul-Henry Nargeolet, British businessman and explorer Hamish Harding, and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son, Sulaiman Dawood.
Time is of the essence, as the Titan submersible is expected to exhaust its breathable air supply by approximately 5 to 6 a.m. Thursday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. The Coast Guard has dispatched three new vessels equipped with advanced tools to search and rescue in the Atlantic Ocean.
OceanGate Expeditions offers deep-sea exploration experiences to tourists, charging around $250,000 per person for a journey in their 22-foot-long submersible capable of diving to depths of 13,120 feet.
In a separate interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” Rush revealed that the submersible is operated using a modified Logitech F710 wireless gamepad, which is available for $30 on Amazon.
OceanGate, established by Rush in 2009, specializes in custom-built submersibles, including the Titan, specifically designed to reach the depths required for visiting the Titanic wreckage. The Titan utilizes SpaceX’s Starlink satellite communications system during its oceanic expeditions.
The company’s website states that the Titan has life support capabilities to sustain its five-person crew for up to 96 hours. According to the Coast Guard, the submersible departed from the Canadian research vessel Polar Prince on Sunday morning, en route to the Titanic site, and contact was lost approximately one hour and 45 minutes later.

Well, good for Mr. Rush. I’m happy he is on this treasure hunt mission. He is such a smart man. He’s much better than you and me. He’s brilliant and has all the answers. He’s white. That’s also good. Ceo’s are the best. They are so nice.
Hey, Mr CEO, I have a great idea for you to increasingly “explore groundbreaking approaches and innovations in your operations”. Instead of “50 year old white guys”, take a bunch of kindergartners who are really good with a gamepad. That’s about as innovative as it gets! Especially the reduction in your operating costs! And if you want to satisfy your “woke” cravings, you can always choose only LGBQT… which will make everybody happy.
Clearly, this retard could only be trusted or supported by the ilk to whom he caters — the very bored, very rich, and very unwise empty-heads in the world. Sure, we’ll give you half a million for a trip down 12k meters, with 2 conditions: no 50 year old white guys, and nothing that’s more complicated than a $30 game pad. If they get rescued, or even if it’s G-d forbid too late, I wonder who will pay for it…
But realize that if you fly United and some other airlines, you’re being the same fools. They have reserved half their hires of pilots for “equity” hires, in other words, experience and talent don’t matter. No 50 year old white guys! Just innovative practices for a woke-business to play with at the possible expense of passengers’ lives ch”v. But keep on flying with them. And make sure you call your flight attendant by its correct pronouns, or you may be ejected from the flight. Possibly in mid-flight…
