An investigation is underway by the London police into a suspected case of arson that targeted the office of Mike Freer, the Member of Parliament representing North Finchley and Golders Green. These areas are recognized for their vibrant Jewish communities. Freer has consistently expressed strong support for the Jewish state and the communities he serves, especially in the aftermath of the Hamas massacre on October 7 and the subsequent surge in antisemitism.
Emergency responders, including officers and firefighters, swiftly attended to a fire that broke out at the North London office on Christmas Eve. Fortunately, no individuals were present in the office at the time, but the extent of property damage was substantial. Mike Freer remarked on the suspected arson, characterizing it as one of several disconcerting incidents he has encountered. In a prior occurrence in 2021, an Islamist who later went on to tragically kill MP David Amess had visited Freer’s constituency office during the lawmaker’s absence.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation, as there is a belief that it may have been intentionally started. Further inquiries will be conducted,” stated a spokesperson from the police, addressing the ongoing efforts to determine the origins and circumstances surrounding the incident.
