The left-leaning organization known as “The Forum for Regional Thinking” has organized a tour in the Samaria village of Huwara, a site that has witnessed several shooting attacks against Israelis this year. In preparation for the tour, the organization sent a message to participants outlining the dress code requirements, which entail wearing modest attire. Specifically, both men and women are expected to wear long pants and shirts with sleeves.

The invitation to the tour states, “The purpose of the tour is to foster an understanding of the daily reality of life under occupation and to promote solidarity with the communities in the area, while also increasing Israeli awareness of the situation in the territories. Please come dressed appropriately, wearing long pants and avoiding tank tops, among other things.”

The Torat Lehima organization shared a screenshot of the invitation on their Twitter account and raised the question, “The Handmaid’s Tale?”

Numerous social media users have accused the left-wing organization of exhibiting hypocrisy. They compared the criticism directed at modesty standards within the charedi community, often drawing parallels to “The Handmaid’s Tale” book and television series, with the lack of critique regarding the modesty standards set for the Arab village.

A social media user commented, “Had this been an invitation by a charedi organization, we would have already witnessed Knesset members speaking out against it, exclaiming ‘Iran is here.’ We would see performances inspired by ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ and, of course, endless media reports. Some people choose to wear ‘modest clothing’ to show respect for Muslims but not for religious Jews. Oh, the hypocrisy.”

In response to the Torat Lehima organization, left-wing activist Eran Zedekiah explained, “Given that there is a possibility of encountering Jewish settlers and religious or traditional Muslim residents during the tour, we aim to be culturally sensitive and considerate of their feelings.”

    • Either way there is hypocrisy but in your case they are also deliberate liars and instigators. These are the people who present the Arabs as peaceful loving and the Jews as solely responsible for all violence.

  1. Not hypocrisy at all. The visiting Israelis know they will never become Arabs, so Arab demands for modesty do not threaten them. When visiting fellow Jews and asked to dress modestly, they must either face themselves and ask why they too aren’t following Jewish law, or smother their conscience by angrily fighting back. Take it as a compliment that even the secular population knows at heart where truth lies.
