ohr-somayach-mentor-missionsThe upcoming July 2-7 Mentors’ Mission will bring baalei batim from North America to Eretz Yisroel to spend five days together with beginner college students at Yeshivas Ohr Somayach. The kesher that the mentors develop and maintain with the students has oftentimes been the “straw that broke the camel’s back” in the kiruv process. Seeing someone who is involved in the business or professional world yet is guided and lives by the Torah is an eye opener for these students.

For the first time since its inception, the Mentors’ Mission to Eretz Yisroel will be held in Yerushalayim for the entire five days of the trip. Some of the day trips will take the participants out of Yerushalayim but aside from an adventurous Wednesday night sleepover at Eretz Bereishis (with an option to go back to the hotel in Yerushalayim), the group of baalei batim and college students will be sleeping in Yerushalayim for the entire trip.

Baalei batim serve as catalysts in finding their students jobs in Shomer Shabbos environments, helping them commit to enroll in yeshiva, inviting them for Shabbos, learning over the phone and via skype and just being there for the students as a mentor for life.

Due to the reduced travel time during the mission, the more than  thirty baalei batim who have already signed up for the trip will be able to spend more time with the college students learning the sugya of eidim zomeminas well as at the trip destinations. Some of the exciting trips planned include Segway, the Eretz Bereishis experience in the Judean desert, Thursday night Nes Harim Water Park followed by a Kumzitz at Kever Rochelwith long time mentor R’ Abish Brodt, the Blind and Deaf Museum in Cholon, Barkan winery , Ein Fuar early morning hike, Mitzpe Yericho bunker tour and Motzei Shabbos Kosel Tunnel Tours. The Friday night program which will begin early with an Introduction to Shabbos at the Churva shul and head to the Kosel for Kabbolas Shabbosand Maariv, will find the group eating the seudah in the Old City followed by tischen in Meah Shearim.

Mentors will be able to gain important insights from the Ohr Somayach staff. Having access and being able to hear lectures from some of the most experienced and knowledgeable mekarvim around is something that thebaalei batim gain much from.  Limited spots are available for baalei batim who would like to participate as mentors in this one of a kind experience that leaves the mentors just as inspired as the students.
