As we reported yesterday, Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has decided to remove a tumor in his prostate in the US. The surgery will be conducted in the coming weeks, but a specific date has not been given. Olmert has explained that he had decided to undergo the surgery in the US because the medical technology there enables him to undergo the procedure in a manner he desires.
Olmert will be using his upcoming trip to the United States to make some money as well, offering to speak for $40,000-$70,000.
As we reported here on Matzav.com last week, Olmert’s prostate cancer is deteriorating, a recent series of tests conducted by doctors at New York’s renowned Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center determined. The tests indicate a growth of the tumor that necessitates immediate treatment. Several Israeli doctors have publicly criticized the decision to have the surgery done in the US, contending that treatment in Israel is excellent.
Olmert informed the public of his diagnosis in October 2007.
Olmert’s legal team won a court decision against an attempt by State prosecutors to force him to remain in the country until hearings are held on indictments pending against him.
In addition to his speaking engagements, the former prime minister has opened Ehud Olmert Consultant Ltd., which his office has said will give him a base to engage in “any legal endeavor.”
