Rivky sat by her father’s bedside, gazing at his soft, pale face. She had never seen him so weak, so frail. His thick black hair had thinned and his skin was almost translucent. The cancer had taken its toll, and her father was slowly fading away. Even in his weakened state, he still managed to give her a warm smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners. She knew he had been struggling with cancer for months, yet somehow he still managed to stay strong.
Rivky watched as he struggled to breathe, his chest rising and falling in a shallow rhythm. She listened to the sound of his labored breathing, and her eyes filled with tears. She stayed with her father all night, until he finally drifted off to sleep. She kissed his forehead and whispered, “I love you,” before she left the room.
The next morning, Rivky awoke to the news that her father had passed away in the night. Her heart broke into a million pieces– She thought she would never experience the same kind of love and closeness that she had shared with her father.
But time has proved her wrong.
Three years later, Rivky has recently met an amazing boy, and they are engaged, and she finally feels the holes in her heart filling up. But without a father to help, she has no way of booking a chasuna hall, or renting a gown from a gmach, or even buying tichels with which to cover her hair.
Right now, there are over 60 orphans in Eretz Yisroel with stories heartbreakingly similar to Rivky’s, who have absolutely no one to help them make the most simple chasunas. In a stunning show of compassion, Rav Chaim Feinstein Shlitta has pledged to go to great lengths to ensure that they won’t be forgotten:
