President Barack Obama skipped a presidential tradition on Erev Shabbos, by not saluting the Marine standing guard outside of Marine One.
CNN reported Obama did not salute before climbing the stairs to Marine One on Friday. However, before Obama was even onboard the presidential helicopter, he turned, shook hands and chatted with the Marine.
Shortly after, he took off from Washington to nearby Annapolis, Md., to partake in another tradition in which he spoke to graduates of the U.S. Naval Academy at c commissioning ceremony, according to CNN.
It’s not the first time Obama’s Marine salutation made news. In February 2009, Obama shook hands with the Marine outside of Marine One, when normally presidents just salute and board the helicopter.
