Yossi Cohen, who ends his five-year tenure as Mossad (Israel’s Intelligence Service) chief Tuesday, said in a farewell address to the organization that under his leadership, Israel had managed to penetrate to the “heart” of the Iranian regime.
Although Israel hardly ever comments on any of its covert operations, the country is thought to have carried out extensive actions to attempt to thwart the Islamic Republic from achieving its stated aim of either acquiring or developing atomic weapons.
While there have been seemingly lower-level incidents at sites connected to Iran’s nuclear program and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) weapons production – including several explosions at various sites in the last week. However, some specific operations stand out for their daring and skill.
These included the 2020 assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the father of Iran’s nuclear program in an intricate and highly precise targeting, and the 2018 theft of thousands of documents from Tehran’s nuclear archives that showed the world the level of the regime’s obfuscation regarding its atomic program.
