Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s cash-strapped campaign will be rescued by a political action committee, days after he announced plans to stop paying staffers. The Opportunity and Freedom PAC can’t officially coordinate with the campaign, but it can carry out many of a campaign’s functions independently—including canvassing, paying for ads, and other types of publicity.
Perry’s regular staff is said to be on board, too, despite the financial difficulties.
“Everyone [but one person] is staying on board, from our senior advisers down to our young kids that live paycheck to paycheck,” his campaign manager said. “They know what I know, which is that Rick Perry has a path forward.” Read more at The Dallas Morning News.
