According to multiple news outlets, the GOP is primed to capture control of the House of Representatives —a development that will see Nancy Pelosi step aside as Speaker of the House, paving the way for GOP leadership.

NBC News is also projecting that the GOP will take control of the House.

“NEW: @NBCNews projects that Republicans will win control of the House of Representatives: Republicans: 219 seats, Democrats: 216 seats.”

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has already thrown his hat into the ring to become the next House Speaker, but he’s expected to face pushback from his party. The GOP may be looking for new leadership after a perceived underwhelming midterms performance.

From The New York Times:

It might still be days until the major decision desks can project that Republicans have won the 218 seats necessary to win control. But over the weekend, Democrats fell short of their targets in the late count in critical battleground districts in Arizona and California.

The sometimes good — but not good enough — results for Democrats raised the bar for what the party needs in the votes yet be counted, while making a late surge seem even less likely.

Right now, Republicans would be on track to win 221 seats if the latest trends continued, though several of these races remain so close that they could easily go the other way.

  1. Can someone explain how a minority party (the Dems) could have won the House or anything without stealing as it seems mathematically impossible?

    • Actually, in the aggregate Democratic candidates get significantly more votes than Republicans candidates in every election cycle for both House and Senate.

A combination of (1) gerrymandering by Republican state legislatures, (2) rural Republican states (e.g., Wyoming) that get as many senators as urban Democratic states (e.g., New York) and (3) heavy concentration of Democratic voters in certain House districts mean that Democratic representation in Congress consistently falls short of their share of the popular vote.

    • Don’t be silly. Trump was coronavised on Feb 17 2021. He’s long gone. The actor who took his place is doing a lousy job.

  2. Pelosi actually got re elected to her seat in Congress. So she isn’t leaving.

We should be thankful for her decades of support for Israel. She even stood up to Omar. McCarthy OTOH appeases the anti-Semites in his caucus.

    • She’ll be moving to a less prestigious office space. That involves packing.

She NEVER willingly stood up to any member of your beloved squad.

Republicans treat all Anti Semites the same way they treat the rest of the Democrats. Anti Semitism in the Democrat Party is the rule, in the Republican Party it’s the exception.
