Raed Saleh, a Palestinian born in the West Bank, wants to rebuild Berlin’s Fraenkelufer Shul, burnt down on Kristalnacht in 1938. He is a member of the State Parliament (Municipality) of Berlin.

Saleh has presented a first draft for the reconstruction of the shul which housed 2,000 worshippers based on the original’s classical-Greek style.

“It should not be lip-service to say that you want to promote Jewish life in Berlin,” said Saleh, who immigrated to Germany when he was five. “You have to act, just do it! The obstacles can be bridged. “

Saleh hopes to collect $30 million needed for construction in time to complete it for Kristalnacht’s 85th anniversary.

  1. A “Palestinian” as a descendant of the ancient and extinct Philistines, hence not a descendant of Abraham, not an Arab and not even a Semite?! Or a “Palestinian” as a dweller of the geographic region that Romans named “Palestine”, then shouldn’t he be called a German now, since he dwells in Germany?!
