Three years after Donald Trump ordered a crackdown on undocumented migrants crossing into the US, lawyers are still struggling to find the parents of 545 children separated from them under the “zero-tolerance” policy, according to the American Civil Liberties Union.

In a court filing, the ACLU said that about two-thirds of the parents had been deported back to the country of origin in Central America, leaving their separated children behind. In the rush to carry out Trump’s orders, the locations of the parents were not recorded and three years later they still cannot be found.

The zero-tolerance policy was announced in April 2018. It was later revealed that the administration had begun family separation the previous year under a secret pilot program.

In total, 1,030 children were removed from their parents by the US government under that pilot scheme, of whom 485 children have had their parents found under a scheme imposed by federal judges. The ACLU and a team of lawyers have been tasked by the courts with finding all the parents.

      • No need to rewrite history. Obama/Emanuel stuffed these poor children into cages meant for dogs and cats. Some are still stuck in them. Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi didn’t care. Msnbc didn’t care. Andrew Cuomo didn’t care. YOU didn’t care.

        • When I am finished caring about my children I will start caring about other sweet Jewish children, and after that, I will certainly care about Non Jewish precious children. However I am NOT the POTUS and I am most certainly not obligated to care for any abandoned Non Jewish child in the jurisdiction of the USA. If I were the POTUS I would instruct my administration to care for them as I see fit and then I would take responsibility for my decisions and actions. If you are correct in stating that children have been stuck in cages for years, over three of those years have seen President Trump in power.

  1. DHS says the parents refused to be reunited with their children.
And that is for children accompanied by their parents.
There are many children who were brought by traffickers and should not be reunited with the adult that brought them to the USA.
In fact the only time these children should ever see the adults who accompanied them, is in a courtroom while pressing trafficking charges
