President Joe Biden expressed his view today that Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he referred to as a “pariah,” is currently “losing” the war in Ukraine. However, he stated that it is too early to determine whether Putin’s position has been weakened by the failed rebellion of the mercenary group known as Wagner.
When asked by reporters at the White House if Putin is now in a weaker position, Biden responded, “It’s hard to tell, but he’s clearly losing the war” in Ukraine and “he’s losing the war at home.”
Furthermore, Biden characterized Putin as “a pariah around the world.”
While assessing the consequences of the recent extraordinary events in Russia, where the Wagner group, a highly capable faction of the Russian military in Ukraine, staged a mutiny and initially threatened to attack Moscow before reversing their course, the White House maintains a cautious stance.
Biden is leading an effort among Western nations to provide support to Ukraine in its resistance against the Russian invasion that began in February of the previous year.
