Some 1,100 Yerushalayim residents are being asked to pay up to a third of the value of their $1 million apartments if they wish to keep them in 30 years, when a 100-year lease between JNF and the Greek Orthodox Church, which owned the land, is due to expire.
The money is being demanded from residents in the prestigious Talbiyeh, Rechaviah, and Nayot neighborhoods by a group of investors that bought the ownership of the land from the church.
Deputy Mayor of Yerushalayim Fleur Hassan-Nahoum is negotiating with the company and attempting to advance Knesset legislation to protect the tenants.

I just have to wonder if the “church” will come back someday and claim that the alleged sale to the alleged “group of investors that bought the ownership of the land from the church” was invalid and void (or perhaps, that the sale was only a “lease” for, say, 30 years).
This issue is also relevant to some apartments in Romema and other areas. These details all these fancy real estate agents selling for the big projects wont reveal. it’s a question that must be asked when you buy any apartment.
