The remains of 388 sailors and Marines killed but unaccounted for during the attack on Pearl Harbor will be exhumed for identification, the Department of Defense announced Tuesday.

Salvage operations during World War II removed 429 bodies from the USS Oklahoma but only 35 were ever positively identified: the rest were later re-interred as unknowns at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii.

The Pentagon said it will seek to identify the remains and then return the service members to the families for burial with full honors. Read more at the Department of Defense.
