It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of HaGaon Rav Yaakov Hakohein Deutsch zt”l, at the age of 81.

His petirah comes in the same year as that of his two illustrious brothers, HaGaon Rav Asher Hakohein Deutsch zt”l and HaGaon Rav Baruch Shmuel Hakohein Deutsch Zt”l.

Rav Yaakov was born in Bnei Brak to his father, Rav Binyomin Ze’ev Deutsch, a close confidant and aide of the Ponovezher Rov, Rav Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman.

Rav Binyomin Ze’ev played a pivotal role in establishing and strengthening Ponovezh Yeshiva and its institutions in Eretz Yisroel. He also served as director of the Ponovezh Batei Avos home.

His mother was Rebbetzin Leah, daughter of Rav Yaakov Adler. Together, his parents merited raising generations of Torah greatness and yiras Shomayim.

As a child, Rav Yaakov learned at Talmud Torah Rabi Akiva in Bnei Brak, the only cheder in the city at that time. He later advanced to Ponovezh L’Tze’irim and then to the Ponovezh Yeshiva Gedolah, where he was beloved by his rabbeim, the Roshei Yeshiva.

Upon reaching marriageable age, he wed his wife and established his home in Yerushalayim, where he lived a life of Torah and avodas Hashem with great diligence. He became known as a symbol of hasmodah, entirely devoted to learning and spiritual growth.

In recent years, Rav Yaakov’s health declined, and to the deep sorrow of his family and admirers, he was niftar.

Yehi zichro boruch.
