The vaccine against COVID-19 coronavirus developed and manufactured by Pfizer, US pharmaceutical giant, and BioNTech is effective against the strain of the virus found in Brazil, a lab study found.
The study, published on Monday by the New England Journal of Medicine, was based on an experiment conducted by the researchers at the University of Texas Medical Branch found, as well as company experts.
The experiment saw the researchers engineer a virus that would be identical to the one that has been found in Brazil and known as P.1.
The virus was then introduced into blood samples taken from people who had been vaccinated using the Pfizer jab — and was neutralized.
