Boro Park – The Assembly district made up of Boro Park and Midwood, is bidding farewell to Dov Hikind, who is leaving the assembly after 36 years of service to the community.

A reception was held Monday night in Paradise Manor on New Utrecht Ave., featuring Hikind’s family, elected officials and organizations he aided over his nearly four-decade career in public service.

“I may not be on the Assembly anymore, but I am not going anywhere,” Hikind vowed. “I will be here for anyone who needs help.”

Hikind won his first election to the Assembly in 1982. He announced his retirement after 18 terms earlier this year. Simcha Eichenstein, a frum aide to Mayor Bill de Blasio, won election last month to replace him.

Shlomo Steinmetz emceed the program, which was also addressed by Rabbi Dovid Goldwasser, rav of Khal Bnei Yitzchok in Flatbush.

David Paterson, a former governor of New York, paid tribute to Hikind’s service. Also speaking is Yehudah Meth, Hikind’s chief of staff and a close family friend. Others at the reception included Councilman Chaim Deutsch and representatives of Chesed Shel Emes and Yad Ephraim.
