This past Sunday, at Beirach Moshe d’Satmar of Williamsburg between the hours of 7:00am and 2:15pm, one thousand men and bochurim had the great Zechus of having one of five Sofrim check and correct many Tefillin issues that arise with the passing of time.

This short article does not allow for a detailed description of what took place. In short, many adjustments were done on the spot as well as the repainting of retzuos – all at no cost.

Some were told to visit a batim macher to make the proper modifications. Now all can rest assure they are being Mekayaim this almost daily mitzvah d’oraisah, lechatchila. Everyone expressed their sincere appreciation to the founder of the program for the incredible opportunity they had. He can be reached at 718-377-6735.

  1. I applaud the efforts expended to promote “Hanacha K’Halacha”. However, I would venture to add another aspect of “Hanacha K’Halacha”, which I think needs to be emphasized. This is the requirement that the entire tefillin be placed in their proper location on the person. [On the bicep of the hand (Shulchan Aruch OC 27:1). On the head, where hair grows (or used to grow), and not the forehead (below the hairline) (OC27:9)].

Someone can own the most exquisite tefiilin, produced with the greatest hiddurim, and even have them refurbished by the team from “Hanacha K’Halacha”, however if he doesn’t wear them in the manner prescribed by halacha, then it’s as good as if he left them in the tefillin bag, and his bracha is a bracha levatala [Mishnah Berurah 27:33].

I look forward to “Hanacha K’Halacha” supplementing their presentation, by incorporating visual aids regarding the proper manner of wearing tefillin. This will create public awareness for a halacha that many people aren’t aware of.

Only by implementing these halachos can people be rest assured that they are being Mekayaim this almost daily mitzvah d’oraisah, lechatchila.
