Preparations have begun once again for Kupat Ha’Ir’s massive kimcha d’pischa campaign [photos below]. With over 4,000 impoverished families relying on the organization for help each year, it’s the largest kimcha d’pischa in the world. The operation has received the yearly support of numerous gedolim. Donors to this year’s campaign receive Rav Chaim Kanievsky’s bracha for a seder night full of shefa and simcha.
The official campaign page paints a touching picture of a young girl:
“Leah won’t be going on any tiyulim this year for Pesach. When seder night comes around, watered-down grape juice will take the place of wine. When the time comes for Shulchan Orech, there will be no meat … no meal at all. That’s because Leah is one of the thousands of children living in poverty in Israel. “
Unfortunately, stories like “Leah”’s are not uncommon. The mitzvah to give kimcha d’pischa is an obligation, but a choice must be made by each individual as to where to give. For those seeking an organization respected by the gedolim, and who wish to receive a bracha from Rav Chaim Kanievsky for the powerful time of Leil HaSeder, this campaign is a clear choice.
