The New York Observer officially endorsed its publisher’s father-in-law Donald Trump for president in a Tuesday editorial. “Donald Trump is the father-in-law of the Observer’s publisher,” the endorsement said at the outset, before denying any nepotistic concerns: “That is not a reason to endorse him. Giving millions of disillusioned Americans a renewed sense of purpose and opportunity is.”
Without naming any specific policy proposals of Trump’s, the platitude-stuffed endorsement fawned over Trump’s willingness to take on the “elites,” rise above his many failed entrepreneurial ventures, and capitalize on alienated voters. The Observer also spent several paragraphs positively comparing Trump to Ronald Reagan.
In June 2015, the newspaper’s editor acknowledged that “there’s no good way to cover Trump’s candidacy from an opinion perspective.” The tabloid’s publisher, Jared Kushner, is married to Ivanka Trump, the GOP frontrunner’s second-eldest child. Read more at the New York Observer.
