On Erev Shabbos HaGadol, a delegation of Rabbonim headed by Rav Noach Isaac Oelboum (Humna Rav), Rav Yitzchak Yisraeli (Chief Bukharian Rabbi of USA and Canada), and Rav Aharon Walkin (Rosh Yeshiva Bais Nosson of Queens) made their way to Williamsburg and Monroe for an emergency meeting at the homes of Rav Zalman Leib Teitelboum and Rav Aharon Teitelboum of Satmar.

The Rabbonim discussed finding a solution to the nearly ten thousand Bukharian children and teenagers who attend public schools in the Queens community, which has approximately 100,000 Bukharians living in that community.
Rabbi Ilan Meirov, director of Chazaq outreach, gave a brief rundown detailing the spiritual sakanah these youth are facing under their current matzav.
Also in attendance was a grandson of the Kalever Rebbe who expressed the Rebbe’s pain and concern over the dire situation.

  1. Chazaq has numerous successful after school programs throughout queens. From what I understand hundreds arrend their programs and they have transferred hundreds to yeshivas. Seems like they are looking to expand and reach more Yiddishe neahamos by getting help from others.

  2. Satmar has a massive support base which includes major donors. I’m assuming they want the Rebbes brachos and support from his chassidim to fund a large effort to save these precious neshamos.. Just guessing…

  3. While not underestimating the importance of this issue, what about all our OWN children and teenagers who are roaming the streets?!

Where are the emergency meetinngs for them?

  4. I live in Queens and know about this massive problem, I truly commend all those who get involved in solving this problem.

  5. Have they reached out to Stars of Israel, a small yeshiva with mainly Bucharian enrollment? Rabbi Schwartzberg does great work but they need financial assistance. Help the schools that are already trying to help before looking elsewhere!

  6. Every jewish boy or girl from our heimisha community can find a school for their kids today. There are yeshivas and Bais Yaakov’s in every level. Some Otd parents are looking for excuses to fight the system. If a school requires the parents to cover their hair or wear long skirts then conform. Don’t march into a heimish school wearing a mini skirt and all cut out. Look normal and you will be treated normal. This new mishigas of wearing leggings is another machla on our society. If your kids end up in public school and intermarry it’s the parents fault.

    • tell me how large is your bank account? or are any of your immediate relative employed in a yeshiva or own a yeshiva!
how can I tell you metric doesnt work.
tell me if a rosh yeshivas son was not a right fit but wasnt thrown out would you open your mouth?
so basically what your saying is a kid should have to be not religous have a child then there child will have a spot in yeshiva?
another thing how many times have rich kids not been thrown out because of the checks?
you know the other difference between the rich kids who “deserve” to be thrown out and the non wealthy kids who “deserve” to be thrown out?
rich kids magically have a million new yeshivas bending over to open their doors to the rich kids when they get thrown out!
how many american bochrim lost their spots to bochrim shipped from Rusia since the 90s?
the fact you butcher a yiddish word shows your age! nobody in the litvish yeshivisha velt used the word heimish to describe religiosity 25 plus years ago.
litvajs historically would describe a pious person as Ehrlich.
so everything parents fault nothing yeshiva?
tell me what’s the purpose of yeshivas?
to show off your son in law as a equivalent
      to a “mercedes”.
so leggings which break no halacha with a long skirt deserves to intermarry? your logic is cuckoo you realize?
