The Lakewood, NJ community gathered for a remarkably successful drive-through census giveaway event on Sunday, August 9. The LRRC, Lakewood Township, CHEMED, the US Census Bureau, and Chaveirim collaborated at BlueClaws Stadium to distribute 5,000 art-themed census giveaway tote bags to Lakewood families. Census workers were also available to help anyone complete the census during the event.
After 3 hours, volunteers had distributed all 5,000 bags, and census workers helped approximately 200 families complete the census, accounting for well over one thousand people. These numbers are unusually high for a census event, and we are proud of all the community members who took their time to help make the giveaway a success. The Chaverim team was terrific and created a streamlined operation that allowed the lines to move very quickly.
BlueClaws stadium graciously hosted the event in their parking lot, an area with enough space to prevent any congestion or traffic backup. The LRRC, CHEMED, and Lakewood Township worked hard to arrange and promote the event and are happy to bring fun art activities to entertain Lakewood children while raising awareness of the importance of completing the census. Being counted in the census is vitally essential for our town and will determine the amount and nature of government resources allocated to the township for the next decade.
The census results are entirely confidential, and respondents are not requested to provide their social security number or license number. All that is required to complete the census is basic information such as name/date-of-birth/ethnicity/home address and the number of people living in the household. If you have not filled out the census, you can complete it by calling 1-844-330-2020 or visiting my2020census.gov. Due to the global pandemic, the deadline to complete the census has been moved to September 30, 2020.
