img_7514[Photos below.] Beth Medrash Govoha of Lakewood’s Annual Evening of Chizuk will be held tonight, and as excitement mounts ahead of the event, the large tent where the gathering will take place, at the corner of New Hampshire and Cedar Bridge avenues, has been constructed and is a hub of activity today, with final arrangements being made.

To construct the massive temporary structure over the weekend, workers flew and drove to Lakewood from various cities hundreds of miles away. The tent is well over 20,000 square feet in size and is actually far larger than any ballroom in the entire tri-state area.

This year’s tent has been constructed a bit different than the tents of past years, as it is comprised of a metal frame that allows for a larger size structure. While not as externally majestic as the tents of past years which featured tall pillars rising toward the sky, the metal-structured tent is sturdier, larger, and does not have unsightly poles coming down into the middle of the ballroom.

Like last year, there are two smaller tents on each side of the main tent. The smaller tents will house the eating areas and are connected to the main tent via hallways.

A lavish buffet will be served by Beth Medrash Govoah’s own gourmet chef, Chazzan Arye Spilman.

The annual event is attended by thousands of men and bochurim.

Tonight’s event will begin with Maariv at 9:20 p.m. The program, set to get underway at 10 p.m., will feature opening remarks from Rav Chaim Mayer Roth, rov of the Sterling Forest Sefard MinyanDivrei pesichah will be delivered by Rav Todros Miller, noted mechanech from Gateshead, England.

Rav Aryeh Malkiel Kotler, rosh yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoha, will then address the gathering.

The guest speaker will be Rav Mechel Zilber, rosh yeshiva of the Zvhiller Yeshiva in Yerushalayim and internationally renowned Daf Yomi maggid shiur for Dial-a-Daf.

The program will conclude at 11:20 p.m. sharp, immediately followed by the annual raffle.

Zemiros at the event will be provided by Shloime Daskal.

Proceeds from the event and the BMG 2011 Kollel Campaign go toward Bais Medrash Govoah’s annual kollel budget of $10 million, about 20% of which is raised during the annual Lakewood campaign. Approximately 2,300 talmidim of Bais Medrash Govoah receive the monthly kollel checks.

  1. Wow! These pictures are amazing.

I have never been to this event because I don’t live in Lakewood, but I never in my life have seen such a tent like this one!

Is it bigger than, say, Ateres Chaya Hall or Terrace On the Park?

  2. The article said it is bigger than any ballrom in the tristate area. That would obviously include those facilities you mention. I wonder, though, if it is bigger than convention facilities, like the Javits Center, or that aromory where Satmar made their seuda recently.

  3. Lets all give a round of applause for the never tiring maintenance director of BMG-Avi Pollack who year in and year out makes this event happen.

  4. All my years as a kollel member I never received a kollel chk.
I’ve been told that seniority was the determining factor.

But the Yungerleit are the BEST!!! Chazak V’amotz.

  5. I want to know how many kollel men there are in BMG , and how many of those get checks, and how much the checks are for.

I also want to know , who decides who gets checks, and what the desicion is based on.
