The rabbi of the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh where 11 Jews were murdered by a white supremacist gunman on Saturday has told an interviewer that he regrets that he was unable to save more people.

“I could only save some,” Rabbi Jeffrey Myers said in a conversation with “CBS This Morning” co-host Bianna Golodryga. “The people in the back of the sanctuary I could not save.”

Asked whether the shooter — 46-year-old Robert Bowers, who was arrested at the scene — could ever be forgiven, Myers replied, “Wow. Big question. I just don’t know. The wounds are too open to answer that. I have to really think about that. Can you really forgive everybody for all evil is one of those big theological questions and right now I can’t answer it.”

  1. “Rabbi Jeffrey Myers”

Not a Rabbi. He is a minister, spiritual (mis)leader perhaps.

“Asked whether the shooter — 46-year-old Robert Bowers, who was arrested at the scene — could ever be forgiven, Myers replied, “Wow. Big question. I just don’t know. The wounds are too open to answer that. I have to really think about that. Can you really forgive everybody for all evil is one of those big theological questions and right now I can’t answer it.”

He doesn’t know?? He thinks maybe such a רוצח can be forgiven? And he calls himself a “Rabbi”???

A symbol of non-orthodox confusion and foolishness is what he is.

    • When I was growing up the Conservative shuls in our area had Orthodox rabbis in their pulpits. They were fully shomer mitzvos, their wives covered their hair and their children went to mainstream yeshivos. Let’s not pass judgement; that’s Hashem’s job.

      • 1) That is not the case here.

        2) That may not have been correct either, but it is ancient history now, so let’s leave it aside now. It is not relevant to this case.

  2. If he had not misled them into a false politicized form of “Judaism”, which accepts toeivah and the Democratic party as integral parts of it, maybe they could have been saved.

Their “Judaism” is a distortion of Torah and Yiddishkeit.

  3. These comments are so harsh. Even if you feel that way, can’t a time where people are mourning for their loved ones call for some more sensitivity? Does everything you feel need to be said?

  4. I think it is important that we are unified as Jews — especially with this horrible event — and we all work and pray for the coming of Moshiach.
