The individual responsible for the heinous attack on Jewish worshipers at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue in October 2018, where 11 congregants lost their lives in one of the most horrific acts of anti-Semitism in US history, has been found guilty today.

Robert G. Bowers, aged 50, faced trial on 63 criminal charges, including hate crimes resulting in death and obstruction of the free exercise of religion resulting in death.

After a brief deliberation following closing arguments on Thursday afternoon, the jury reached a verdict this morning.

Bowers initially offered to plead guilty in exchange for a life sentence, but federal prosecutors rejected this proposal.

In addition to the 11 fatalities, Bowers also injured seven individuals, including five police officers.

Jurors now face the decision of determining whether Bowers should receive the death penalty or be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Leading up to this highly publicized trial, Bowers’ defense attorneys revealed that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and suffered from structural and functional impairments in his brain.
