Police Hunt Lakewood Bank Robber

lakewood-smallPolice are investigating a robbery that took place yesterday afternoon at Investors Savings Bank on Route 70, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press. An alarm inside the bank at 425 Route 70 was sounded at about 4:35 p.m., Lt. Michael Mooney said. A man walked into the bank, passed the teller a note saying he had a gun and demanding money. The man was described by police as white, wearing a black baseball hat, blue jeans and a brown suede jacket. He fled the area on foot, Mooney said.A bulletin was posted to all law enforcement agencies in Ocean and Monmouth counties with the man’s description, but was canceled after initial searches came up empty.

The robbery remains under investigation by Lakewood and Toms River police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the scene investigation.
