trump1The CPAC crowd went wild for Donald Trump. But the rest of America isn’t as enamored with the flamboyant billionaire, according to a new poll.

A Public Policy Polling nationwide survey found that a whopping 56 percent of Republicans have a negative opinion of Trump, while only 29 percent rate him favorably.

Though there’s no mistaking his trademark orange hair and swagger. Of those polled, 85 percent were familiar with the Trump brand – name recognition trails just behind Palin’s 90 percent.

“But his name recognition is a curse – it’s not as if Trump’s poll numbers could rise as voters get to know him better- they already know him and dislike him,” pollster Tom Jensen wrote in a blog previewing tomorrow’s full results.

The survey also cast doubt on the CPAC straw poll, showing that only 30 percent of Republican primary voters held a favorable opinion of Paul. Most Republicans – 37 percent – dislike the straw poll winner.

And the survey found that GOP primary voters don’t view Palin as White House material. Only 29 percent said she was qualified to be commander-in-chief, while 46 percent said she was better suited to be VP.

  1. Trump is as favorable in office as a dirt mound is in my bookstore. I guess I’d take it, but someone will have to clean up after him. I do think that he has the charisma and aptitude to lead, and I’d probably enjoy his soliloquoys and banter. But does he really have the charm that it takes to lead a nation internationally? Thats his hang up.
