kids-of-courageTo experience the joy of Chanukah is a celebration in itself, sharing it with Kids of Courage brings a new appreciation for life’s daily miracles. Kids of Courage is a volunteer based, not for profit organization dedicated to “Conquering Illness Through Adventure” by providing innovative adventure trips and year round programming for children and young adults with chronic, serious, and life threatening illnesses.

Excitement permeated the air as an incredible Chanukah party was hosted Monday evening by Pomegranate, with a standing room only crowd of campers, staff, and volunteers in attendance. With the store so beautifully transformed by Scoop & Co. into a spectacular and elegant party room, the produce section was replaced by a stage and dance floor in anticipation of the lively dancing that always accompanies any Kids of Courage event.

With a fabulous band and Lipa’s trademark entertainment, the action did not stop all night. The children danced hand in hand with their dedicated counselors as together they celebrated the miracles of Chanukah, as well as the miracles they all live each day. The true joy on the faces of these very special children gave those in attendance a glimpse of what it means to live with the daily challenges that serious illness brings. Wheelchairs, oxygen, and ventilators were merely part of the decor as the music played and the lively dancing rocked the house.

Large screens were spread throughout the room playing continuous slide shows of photos from various Kids of Courage shabbatons, events, and trips including their summer trips to Los Angeles and Orlando. Delicious food provided the fuel and energy that kept the crowd going for hours.

As the evening wound to a close and people began to disperse, the buzz was already in the air about when the next party would be held. The fun, friendship, and camaraderie that are a part of every Kids of Courage event make all those who are involved eager to attend the next one.

n evening such as this could not be accomplished without a very dedicated group of people. Much gratitude for such an amazing Chanukah party goes to Mr. Abraham Banda and the entire staff of Pomegranate, Scoop & Co., Raphi Bollag and Lipa. The incredible attention to detail and meticulous planning ensured an event that put big smiles on some very special faces.

On the heels of their Chanukah celebration, the crew at Kids of Courage is in the throes of planning their Second Annual Ski Madness Weekend in January, a thrilling four day adaptive skiing adventure on the slopes of Vermont. It is the once in a lifetime chance for the campers to be able to ski which is something many of them never dreamed they could do. Kids of Courage affords them the experiences that others so often take for granted, creating memories that last long after the adventures are over. To participate in the ski trip, please email [email protected]. Kids of Courage is a registered 501(c)(3) and There is no charge to the families for any programs.
