US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recalled Sunday that any arms sales to Iran would lead to sanctions, after Tehran’s earlier declaration claiming the UN embargo had been lifted.
“The United States is ready to use its national authorities to sanction any individual or entity that contributes materially to the supply, sale and transfer of conventional weapons to Iran,” Pompeo said in in a statement.
The statements came after Iran gloated on Sunday that a UN arms embargo on Tehran had now expired, under the terms of the Iranian international nuclear deal and Security Council resolution 2231.
