In a positive and encouraging development, the Wasserman family has committed to working with a new Rav to help facilitate a Get for Nechama.

According to information obtained by VIN News, the family has made a serious commitment to work with Rabbi Landesman of Beis Din Tzedek Kollel Harabbonim in Monsey, NY, to do whatever they can to facilitate the Get.

As such, a gathering that had previously been scheduled for today has been suspended.

We applaud the Wasserman family for moving forward in a positive and helpful manner to help Free Nechama finally after 7 long years.

We owe it to the Wassermans to take a step back and give them space while they put in the important work that lies ahead.

We all anxiously await the results of this positive development.

Please join us in praying for a positive outcome!

  1. “We owe it to the Wassermans to take a step back and give them space while they put in the important work that lies ahead.”
This is a very important point, not just for this case, but for any other case where the community tries to pressure the families.
If a single person harasses the family while the proceedings are in progress (and for sure once a Gett is given) that would be something for other Gett refusers to point to and say ” the pressure will continue if I do cooperate, why should I listen?”

  2. We also applaud Nechama for moving out of this non-bais-din to a real experienced get person such as Rav Landesman.
Now the protesters will be able to use their time – and resources – more constructively and maybe get some olom habah at the same time.

  3. @royal, there are cases in halacha where it is not only permitted to force a Get, it is a chiyuv
The gemara in Gittin says that you force the husband to give a Get until he says “Roitzeh Ani, I want to”. The obvious question is that hes only saying that he wants to because hes getting pressured? The answer is that deep down everyone wants to do the right thing.
So yes, in some cases it is permitted to beat a husband and force him to give a Get, obviously done Kehalacha.
