Postmaster General: Post Office In Midst Of Financial Disaster

But lack of money might.

Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe said his agency is in “the midst of a financial disaster” and may need an emergency increase in postage rates to keep operating.

Donahoe told a Senate committee that “the Postal Service as it exists today is financially unsustainable.”

He’s asking Congress to let the Postal Service end Saturday mail delivery and reduce its annual payments for future retiree health benefits.

  1. The post office has lost in competition with FedEx and UPS because those companies not only deliver the stuff on time, they don’t lose it, and if they do, they track it down for you.

    This is called customer service. Cutting services in the name of saving money is a great way to send your customers straight to the competition. The post office should be increasing its services if it wants to keep customers and turn a profit. Business 101.
