With no winning ticket drawn on Monday, the Powerball jackpot is now estimated to be $725 million for the upcoming Wednesday drawing.
The winning numbers for Monday night’s draw were 2, 24, 34, 53, 58, with the Powerball number being 13 and a Power Play of 2X.
Had someone won on Monday night and opted for the cash option, they would have received over $340 million.
It’s crucial to understand that while the $572 million jackpot may entice lottery players, the chances of winning the top Powerball prize are extremely slim, with odds of approximately 1 in 292.2 million. The overall odds of winning any Powerball prize are about 1 in 24.9.
To participate in the Powerball game, players can purchase a ticket for $2 per play. They need to select five numbers from one to 69 for the white balls and one number from one to 26 for the red Powerball. Alternatively, players can choose to have their numbers randomly generated.
To win the jackpot, all five white ball numbers and the red Powerball number must match. There are also eight additional ways to win based on the number of matched balls in the non-jackpot tiers, with prizes ranging from $4 to $1 million. By adding an extra $1, players can opt for the “Powerplay” feature, which multiplies non-jackpot winnings by 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10 times. However, the 10X Powerplay option is only available for jackpots of $150 million or less, and the “Match 5” prize for the second-tier is capped at $2 million with Powerplay.
Some jurisdictions offer an additional feature called “Double Play” for $1 per play, which provides players with another chance to match their numbers after each Powerball drawing.
