Some 300 people protested today near the bais hachaim in Yerushalayim where Rav Ovadia Yosef zt”l is buried, upset over the cemetery’s closing time, which they insist is too early and interferes with people coming to daven at the kever of the Sefardic gaon.
The protesters on Rechov Bar Illan were treated roughly by police officers, who used crowd dispersal measures to clear the crowd.
The decision to close the Sanhedria Bais Hachaim at 8 p.m. prevents people from davening at Chacham Ovadiah’s kever, protestors said, pointing out that the kever of Rav Elazar Menachem Man Shach in Bnei Brak is open 24 hours a day.
