Winter weather advisories are in effect across the tri-state area, including for the five boroughs, ahead of a system expected to dump up to 5 inches of snow on parts of the region during Friday’s morning commute, NBC NEW YORK reports.

Rain is expected to move in late Thursday, then change over to snow overnight as temperatures plunge toward freezing. Snow is expected to begin around 3 a.m. Friday and continue intermittently through noon, making for a messy morning commute and lingering travel issues through the day.

The frigid weather gets worse for the weekend, with Storm Team 4 predicting a bone-chilling high of 29 degrees on Shabbos and a high of 31 on Sunday, Purim.

So bundle up. You’ll likely have to wear a coat over that Purim costume.

  1. Thirty-five odd years ago an acquaintance in high school went with her family to Eretz Yisrael for Purim (in those days it was still something rare!) and one of the things she told us about was that the rabbonim had been mispallel that it should rain every Purim, in order to contain the pritzus on the streets. Well, rabbossai, that’s usually the case, to the point that it’ll rain everywhere but Yerushalayim on Purim, and then only in Yerusholayim on Shushan Purim!
