Russian President Vladimir Putin extended warm greetings to the Jewish community of his country ahead of Rosh Hashanah, continuing an annual tradition.

In a letter released Monday on the Kremlin’s official website, Putin praised Russian Jews for their contributions to the nation’s development and emphasized the values the holiday represents.

“Friends, I warmly congratulate you on the holiday of Rosh Hashanah. This holiday marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year, calls believers to repentance, and calls for mercy and compassion. It symbolizes commitment to the high moral ideals that underlie all traditional religions,” the president wrote.

He further highlighted the role of Jewish heritage in Russia, noting: “A caring attitude toward the history of your people and adherence to ancient traditions now serve as spiritual support for the Jews of Russia. I wish you health, success, and all the best.”
