Qatar has submitted a formal request to the international court, emphasizing the importance of Israel’s obligation to allow the United Nations and other global organizations to function in ‘Palestine.’
In the submission, Qatar urged the court to issue an advisory opinion regarding Israel’s responsibilities with respect to UN operations, particularly those involving the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), as well as other international bodies and third-party nations.
Additionally, Qatar expressed its belief that the court’s ruling would help clarify vital legal matters related to ensuring the well-being of the Palestinian people and their fundamental right to self-determination.
In October of last year, the Knesset passed legislation to shut down the operations of UNRWA in Israel, citing allegations that some of its staff had participated in the October 7 massacre. Israel has long accused UNRWA employees of having ties to terrorism, claiming that the UN has failed to address the issue despite presenting substantial evidence.
