It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of R’ Chaim Shmuel Begun z”l.

A son of R’ Aron Shlomo Begun, R’ Chaim, throughout his life, from the period of time he spent fighting in the US Army during World War II through raising an upstanding family on American shores, was an outstanding oveid Hashem and an example to others. His Torah and life lessons inspired his family and those who merited to be in contact with him.

R’ Chaim leaves behind a wonderful family following in his ways, including his son, R’ Yerachmiel Begun, noted composer, Jewish music pioneer, and director of the Miami Boys Choir.

R’ Yerachmiel and family will be sitting shivah only one day, today, Sunday, Erev Rosh Hashanah, from 3 to 5 p.m. at 1538 East 17th Street, between Avenues O and P, in Flatbush, Brooklyn.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. א טייערע איד from the a different world and a different time.

I guess he was in his nineties.

I recall in the old days in B.P. how he would speak of Reb Moshe (R. Moshe Roginsky z”l I believe it was) from Ezras Torah that he was close to, also a Rabbi Jacobson (from Tiferes Torah?), with such הערכה.

He would sometimes be on Art Raymond’s simcha program talking about MBC as well. Art would have a friendly banter with him.

In more recent years he could be found learning and davening at כנסת בית אביגדור of R. Aharon Kahn shlit”a in Midwood.

    יהי זכרו ברוך.
