At the levaya of his 12-week-old daughter at the Shamgar chapel in Yerushalayim early this morning, R’ Shmuel Elimelech Braun shed copious tears.
“Zissele, you were pure,” he said. “In the last hour, you were by the Kosel. Then you woke up. We shmoozed (talked) with each other. You looked at me and smiled. “I told you that this is the Kosel, this is the Har Habayis.
“You looked at me, with a twinkle in your eye, like you knew, like you understood what I was saying. You made us happy from the moment you were born.”
The baby was a granddaughter of Reb Shimshon Halpern and a great-granddaughter of Reb Refoel Halpern, known for his eyewear chain by that name.
Reb Shimshon told the media after the terror attack that his daughter had tried for a number of years to have a child before giving birth to Chaya Zissel.

Please don’t forget that she was also the granddaughter of R Moishe and Esther Braun of Los Angeles. The Brauns are renowned for their ehrlichkeit and chessed. They are mezakeh the community in countless ways, from their Shul to their tehillim group to their guest speakers.
This is truly a tragedy of epic proportions.
May Hashem comfort the bereaved among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
