It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rabbi Dov Zev Weinberger zt”l.

Rabbi Weinberger was the rabbi emeritus of Young Israel of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. A respected talmid chochom, he was the author of sefer Shemen HaTov al haTorah

Rabbi Weinberger is survived by his siblings, Rav Shloima Weinberger, Rav Psachya Weinberger, and R’ Mordechai Weinberger; and his children, R’ Mayer Weinberger, Mrs. Hindy Weissberg, and Mrs. Devorah Wohlberg.

The family is sitting shivah until Tuesday morning at 1716 59th Street, between 17th and 18th Avenues, in Boro Park. Shacharis is at 8 a.m., Mincha is at 6:30 p.m., and Maariv is at 9:30 p.m.

[Rav Shloima Weinberger and Rav Psachya Weinberger are sitting shivah at 547 Maitland Avenue in Teaneck, NJ. On Friday, Mrs. Hindy Weissberg will be sitting shivah at 647 6th Street in Lakewood.]

  1. Rabbi Weinberger (many knew him by his English name, Rabbi Bernard Weinberger, was the Rav of the Young Israel of Brooklyn which was located in Williamsburg. There was a Young Israel of Williamsburg which was closer to the Fort Greene neighborhood.

    As Anonymous wrote above the niftar had four children; R’ Mordechai, R’ Mayer, Mrs. Weissberg and Mrs. Wohlberg.

  2. Rabbi Weinberger was the Rov of the Young Israel of Brooklyn which was on either Rodney or Roebling St. The Young Israel of Williamsburg was on Willoughby Ave between Lewis Ave and Sumner Ave (now Marcus Garvey Blvd).

  3. I confirmed with R’ Mordechai and R’ Mayer that the Young Israel of Brooklyn was on Bedford, corner of Rodney St..
