It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rabbi Yitzchok Dovid Schwartz z”l of Brooklyn.
Rabbi Schwartz is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sima Schwartz; his siblings, Rabbi Chaim Schwartz and Rabbi Avrohom Schwartz; and his children, R’ Yosef Chanina, R’ Binyomin, R’ Mendy, Shlomo, Nosson Nechemia, Elimelech and Leah.
Rabbi Schwartz formerly served as the rov of Congregation Sefard in Flatbush and was a talented mechanech, speaker, writer mashpiah, and baal machshavah.
The son of R’ Meilich and Lydia Schwartz Angeles, Rabbi Schwartz attended Yeshiva Ohr Elchonon in Los Angeles before joining Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin in Flatbush and then Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim.
He married his wife, Sima, a daughter of Rabbi and Mrs. Chaim Stein, and then learned in the Chaim Berlin Kollel Gur Aryeh. He served as a rebbi at that point at Bais Medrash L’Torah in Skokie, then at Yeshiva Tiferes Torah in Staten Island, and then at the Be’er Hagolah Institute for Russian immigrants and the Jewish Heritage Center of Queens.
A gifted writer, Rabbi Schwartz was instrumental in the production of the divrei Torah contained in Rav Shimon Schwab’s classic sefer Mayan Bais Hasho’eivah.
The levaya was held today Shomrei Hachomos Chapels in Boro Park. Kevurah is taking place in Lakewood, NJ, at the East Seventh Street Bais Hachaim.
The family will be sitting shivah until Tuesday morning at 1258 East 12th Street in Flatbush. Shacharis is at 8 a.m., Mincha at 1:30 p.m., and Maariv at 8:45 p.m.

BD”E. A true talmid chocham. An oheiv Yisroel. A marbitz Torah and a m’kareiv levavos Yisroel la’Avihem sheba’Shomayim. A special father, husband, brother, son, and son-in-law, Rav, writer, and mentor. A nephew-in-law of the Gaon and Tzadik HaRav Shlomo Freifeld ztzvk”l. An oveid HaShem b’simchah. A warm, good, and caring friend. Just one amazing individual.
I sat at his Shabbos table many times. He was super brilliant and a major league talmud chachom. He understood people and knew how to connect with them no matter who they were and from whatever background they came from. He understood the depth and uniqueness of the Gedolei Yisroel of the bygone eras and of our times and transmitted their message to us in a way that we could relate to. He was a wonderful husband and amazing father to his children. His remarkable wife was part of his team and was his full partner is his every endeavor. What an enormous loss for all of us. It is beyond belief that he could be taken from us in the prime of his life. Tzadik Hashem bchal derachav. He will live on in our memories and lives, no doubt about that. May his wonderful family find strength and nechama at this difficult time.
I just read of my cousin Davids passing with both sadness and great shock.
He was the best of the best and I will never forget the times and fun I had with him during our youth.
I do not know how he died but know he was a great great human being
