It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rabbi Dr. Shlomo Sprecher z”l of Flatbush.

A son of R’ Pesach Moshe Sprecher, R’ Shlomo was a physician by profession, but he was an outstanding talmid chochom and maggid shiur who made Torah his true occupation.

R’ Shlomo was a boki in halacha and knowledgeable in so many sugyos and inyanim, with a particular interest in the history of science and halachic ramifications. He delivered hundreds of shiurim and authored dozens of articles on a wide range of Torah topics.

R’ Shlomo was a friend to so many people, at the Sasreiginer Shul in Flatbush where he was a maggid shiur and elsewhere. Whoever met him was treated to a chiddush, a good vort, a halachic observation, or just a kind word. R’ Shlomo was a mayan hamisgabeir, a wellspring of knowledge and insight. His passing leaves a gaping void in the hearts of all who knew him.

The levaya will take place tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Shomrei Hadas Chapels, located at 39th Street and 14th Avenue in Boro Park, Brooklyn.

R’ Shlomo’s passing comes just days after the petirah of another Flatbush doctor who was also an outstanding ben aliyah and adam choshuv, R’ Mendy Friedman. רחמיך תעוררי כי לקינו בכפלים.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. Reb Shlomo was so humble and he was so great! He was the quintessential scholar and a Talmid Chochom too! I always enjoyed conversing with him regarding so many different subjects. I saw first hand the exceptional devotion and Kibud horim that he and my cousin Mati displayed for their parents. My parents and entire family had so much respect for him! Yehi zichro boruch.

  2. BD’E it seems both doctors understood they were shlucahim drachmana. We should follow their example and seek the yeshoua from physicians that have this appropriate perspective. May they continue being shlucahim and be a melitz yosher for their respective families, kehilios and klal yisroel.

  3. This was a class individual form the very start. I was privileged to attend both elementary and high schools with him at Torah V’daas. He was brilliant-won every honor there was to win, eloquent, speaking at both graduations, and humble to a fault. Most regrettably, we were not in touch over the years, but I knew of his impact and his massive accomplishments in Torah, and otherwise. May he serve as an effective meilitz yoshor for his bereaved family, and for all of Clal Yisroel. Yehi zichroi baruch.

  4. Derech Eretz Kodmah L’Torah.

    Dr. Sprecher personified this.

He had an enormous wealth of both Torah and secular knowledge, but his character was beyond reproach. He would always respond to everyone’s questions-medical, halachic, historical, etc. with the utmost respect, care and deference, justified or otherwise. He provided countless hours and advisory to Achiezer in the 5 towns and anyone who required medical care& guidance. Prior to his mothers passing, he doted on her to her last day, and his first priority following davening was always making his way to her apartment.

    A tragedy of epic proportions.

  5. He was always one of top three students in elementary school and high school (Torah Vodaath), Brooklyn College and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His reputation for MRI analysis was widespread. His Jewish scholarship impeccable His shiurim were a tour de force. He was a genius in lomdus and bekius. Like the truly great, exceptionally bright talmidei chachomim of the past, Shlomo’s true gadlus was in his warm magnanimous chesed! So many of us are left with a feeling of emptiness in our hearts.
