Rabbi Mordechai Gorodetsky z”l, a Chabad activist in Eretz Yisroel who served for many decades as Chairman of the Vaad Nachlas Har Chabad, passed away on Sunday. He was 89 years old.

He was born in 5692 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan to his parents Reb Simcha and Rasha Zelda Gorodetsky, who were sent by the Frierdiker Rebbe to strengthen Jewish life in Central Asia.

During World War II, remote Samarkand became a vibrant center of Jewish life, when hundreds of Lubavitch families fleeing the war settled in the city. He received his education at the local chapter of Tomchei Temimim established in the city by the newly arrived Chassidim.

After his marriage to Mrs. Dina Vishetzky of Tashkent, he settled near his father-in-law’s residence and was a member of the Chabad community in Tashkent until his departure from Russia.

Upon his arrival in Eretz Yisroel, he settled in Kfar Chabad, and together with his brother-in-law established a textile factory there.

With the establishment of the Vaad Nachalas Har Chabad, he was appointed chairman of the committee.

He is survived by his children, Roza Blizinsky – Kfar Chabad, Raya Raskin – Crown Heights, Sara Blizinsky – Nachalas Har Chabad, and Chanie Garelik – Ashkelon.
