It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rabbi Simcha Ullman z”l, menahel of the Cheder of Los Angeles.

Rabbi Ullman was an outstanding, beloved, and greatly admired mechanech, who influenced and inspired generations of talmidim with great care and sensitivity. His passing leaves a great void in the world of chinuch, where Rabbi Ullman had a great impact on so many people.

The levayah is being held at Moshe Ganz Hall in Los Angeles and the aron will then be flown to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah there.
Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. What a tremendous loss for all of klal Yisroel!!!
He was so beloved by all, a master mechanech, and such a Baal hachnasas orchim. Always had sippurei tzadikim to tell, a chassidishe vort, a good word. What a yarei shamayim, Baal chessed, and inspirational speaker and storyteller. Managed to create a chassidishe bubble within such a city of tumah.
He leaves behind a very large void along with his mourning family who were his pride and joy.

    • There has been wonderful and choshuv chasidim in la for over a hundred years. My grandfather was the first chasidish born in la rov, he would be 102 if was still alive. My uncle a”h was also a rov there and raised his children to be ehrlich chasidim in la. To say la is a city of tumah would be like saying brooklyn is full of kedusha. Galus is all tumah. We have to try to create kedusha and live a life of kedusha in galus. Yes rabbi ullman was a big tzaddik and it leaves a void, but he’s not the first and hopefully someone else will take up where he left off. By the way he and his family know my family very well.

  2. Is he from Monsey originally? I think I knew him from Riverdale yeshiva, a real ben Torah. I think he’s a son-in-law of Rabbi Mintz from Staten Island.

  3. Much more than just a mechanech but was involved in helping families in the cheder in all types of ways.
Although he was very strict about not getting connected with the secular world, he personally was involved in kiruv and years ago would lecture in arachim, among other things.
A real Zadik who cared about all the talmidim.
