It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rabbi Tzvi (Heshy) Eckstein zt”l. He was 79 years old.

A longtime resident of Flatbush, Rabbi Eckstein was a rebbi for over five decades at the Mirrer Yeshiva in Flatbush, his alma mater, where he had learned as a young ben Torah under such luminaries as Rav Shmuel Brudny and Rav Shmuel Berenbaum. A noted talmid chochom, Rabbi Eckstein possessed a unique breath of knowledge, with a grasp of Shas and halacha, as well as broad knowledge of machshavah.

Rabbi Eckstein recently contracted Covid-19 and entered the hospital a couple of weeks ago. He passed away this morning.

Rabbi Eckstein is survived by his wonderful family: his wife, Mr. Tzivy Eckstein; his sister, Mrs. Chaya Lent; and his children, Rabbi Moshe Eckstein, Mrs. Gittel Bresler, Shmuel Dovid Eckstein, Aharon Avner Eckstein, Mrs. Shoshana Hirsch, Mrs. Sara Lasker, and Yehuda Boruch Eckstein. His son-in-law, Rabbi Avrohom Levi Bresler zt”l, was niftar about nine months ago.

The levayah will take place at the Congregation Sons of Israel Holocaust Memorial Chapel, located at 613 Ramsey Street, in Lakewood NJ. It will then continue at 12 p.m. at the Mirrer Yeshiva, located at 1791 Ocean Parkway in Flatbush. Kevurah will follow in Queens.

Yehi zichro boruch.
